This is going to be a quick post as I just wanted to get the information out there for anyone else having the same problem as me. I had a situation where VMWare Workstation was working fine, but I was unable to access any of the guests from the host, the situation was like this:
- Guests could reach the internet and the rest of the LAN.
- Other machines on the LAN could reach the guests.
- VMWare Workstation Parent was unable to ping or access the guests.
- The guests were unable to access the parent over the network.
I spent a long time messing around with the virtual network configuration, uninstalling VMWare Workstation, even paid to upgrade from version 12 to version 14. But nothing worked.
In the end I started looking at the network configuration of the host, which didn’t seem to have anything out of the ordinary. I did have SonicWALL Global VPN client installed, which I did not suspect would cause any issues, but out of desperation I uninstalled it and then everything worked great.
So if you have any 3rd Party VPN clients installed, try uninstalling them and see if that fixes your issues. I did try disabling the SonicWALL adapater at first, but that did not make any difference.

I have the exact same issue. I even downloaded the latest vpn client from sonic wall. I have open vpn installed on the host as well and it has no adverse affect on the ability to reach the VM. Once I installed the Global VPN Client by Sonicwall the VM becomes invisible and can no longer be seen, pinged, etc. This is a true pain in the rear side, does anyone have a solution. My vm is setup using a bridged connection and has the replicate physical network connection state checked. I have tried re-installing the VMWare virtual network adapters but still nothing. Only when I uninstall (as mentioned above) the Global VPN Software does everything start working again. Uggggg, help SonicWall!
